Where this site stands today
Zero cookies set
We measured the site page by page. The result is simple: no cookie is set, nothing is written to your browser storage, and no third-party server is contacted while you visit.
In practice that means the law does not require us to ask for your consent to browse here, because there is nothing to consent to. So we do not show you a banner for nothing.
One technical choice we made for you
Most sites load their fonts from Google's servers. It is convenient and free, but it hands your IP address to a third party in the first millisecond, before you have had any chance to say anything. A German court ordered a site owner to pay damages for exactly that, in 2022.
So we downloaded those fonts and we serve them from our own domain. The site is slightly faster, and your IP address goes nowhere.
What Belgian law requires
In Belgium, cookies and trackers are governed by the Code of Economic Law and by the GDPR, supervised by the Data Protection Authority. The main rules are these:
- No cookie that is not strictly necessary may be set before valid consent has been obtained.
- Refusing must be as easy as accepting, with a refuse button at the first level of the banner and with equal prominence.
- Consent requires a positive action. Carrying on browsing, scrolling or closing the banner do not count as agreement.
- Pre-ticked boxes are prohibited.
- Consent must be withdrawable at any time, as easily as it was given.
- Cookie walls and deceptive designs are prohibited.
Those rules are met here in the most direct way possible: we set nothing.
What would happen if we added analytics
One day we may want to know how many people visit the site and which pages interest them. That would be processing subject to consent.
In that case, and only in that case, a banner would appear on your first visit. It would offer Refuse and Accept side by side, at the same level and with the same prominence. No tracker would be set until you had chosen, and your choice would be changeable at any time from the footer.
The mechanism is already built into the site. It is simply dormant, because it has nothing to manage today.
The only thing we would remember
If such a banner appeared and you made a choice, that choice would be kept in your browser's local storage, under a key named fg-consent, so that you are not asked again on every page.
Storing it is considered strictly necessary: without it, respecting your refusal would be impossible. It holds only your decision, no personal data, and it never leaves your device.
